Later Akebi switched to paid, two former Akebi contributors: ayy lmao and nitro developed a free version based on the source code of the old Akebi called Acrepi.

Trolling

In the first released versions, Acrepi had a banner of two gay people kissing to troll users from developers, and also to get users to buy Akebi-Private.

Initially it only appeared for 5 minutes, then increased to 30 minutes and then permanently.

Many users have found a way to hide this banner, or switch to using Bkebi.

Cease & Desist

On March 31, 2023, one of the 2 developers of Acrepi - nitro announced that a friend of his in the Crepe Team received a Cease & Desist letter from COGNOSPHERE right at his home.

Not long after that, Taiga - Akebi's main developer announced that he received a Cease & Desist letter from HoYoverse and announced to stop developing all projects that violate HoYoverse's terms of service.
